摘要

The transient velocity and thermal fields in a composite two materials system (solid-liquid), with simultaneous freezing and melting process, are calculated. The fluid motion and energy equations are solved by the Spectral Element method. Two cases are studied, in the first one the natural convection only appears in the molten solid, whereas in the second case, the convection also appears in the liquid material. The rate of growth of the phase change fronts is also predicted. For short times of the transient process, the numerical computations are successfully compared with the exact solution of the one-dimensional, heat conduction problem.
