International Conference on Nuclear Radiations and their Effects, Nagasaki, 22-26 August 2004

摘要

An international conference on nuclear radiations and their effects, organised by the Radiation Education Forum, was held in Nagasaki from 22 to 26 August, It brought together many nuclear scientists, leaders of the Japanese nuclear industry and high-school teachers from many countries. The principal theme was the need for education in the potentialities of nuclear radiation both in schools and in society as a whole. The opening session was devoted to talks on 'School Education and the Energy Problem' by Professor Akito Arima (formerly professor of physics at Tohyo University and subsequently president of Tokyo University, director of Riken Laboratory, senator and minister of education, and now director of the Japan Science Foundation), and on 'Nagasaki and Radiation: the Atomic Bomb and Chernobyl' by Professor Shigenobu Nagataki (Nagasaki University).
