Brian Wade, a long-term member of the BNES and one of its staunchest supporters, died suddenly in March aged 71. Within the society he will be remembered for his dedicated work on society business but he also enjoyed a successful career within UKAEA. Brian joined the Harwell Laboratories in 1956 after obtaining an honours degree in physics at Manchester University and a PhD at Imperial College. He joined a team responsible for the physics aspects of the new high-flux reactors, DIDO and PLUTO. The characteristics of these reactors were not fully understood and Brian quickly made his presence felt and made a valuable contribution to up-rating the power output from these reactors.
