Iodine filters are used to reduce the release of radioactive iodine with the extracted air in nuclear power plants. These filters contain activated carbon. KTA 3601, "Ventilation plants in nuclear power stations", describes the type, quality and design of the iodine absorption filters. In KTA 2101, "Fire protection in nuclear power plants", Part 3 entitled: "Fire protection for mechanical and electronic plant" has section 8.4.1 referring to stationary activated carbon and particulate filters having detection units (such as CO measuring devices) located upstream of the ventilation valves for the detection of fires in activated carbon filters.
