Spent Nuclear Fuel Repository Programme in Finland

Finland is one of the few countries in the world where nuclear waste management programmes are proceeding along definite plans, which also include disposal of the spent fuel. The only nuclear reactor under construction in the western world is also located on the same site as the planned spent fuel repository. Perhaps the successful spent fuel management programme could be an explanation of the support for a new programme of reactors in Finland. How has this favourable situation been built? There are no straightforward answers, of course, but this article on the status and history of the spent fuel repository programme in Fin/and may shed some light on the issue.
