摘要

There is much talk of a nuclear renaissance and even after the events at Fukushima - and subsequent postponement and cancellation of programmes by countries including Germany, Italy and Switzerland - most of the countries that were interested in developing new nuclear power plants remain so. In the UK, the Weightman report found that there was no reason to curtail the operation of UK sites or change the siting of proposed new nuclear power stations following Fukushima (the UK practice of periodic safety reviews of licensed sites provides a robust means of ensuring continuous improvement in line with advances in technology and standards) and the Government has made it clear that nuclear power remains an important part of its future energy strategy.
