EDF Energy plans to build the first new nuclear power station in the UK for a generation, at Hinkley Point in Somerset. EDF Energy also proposes to build reactors at Sizewell in Suffolk. Additionally there is an ongoing pre-planning stage for developing a new nuclear power station at Bradwell-on-Sea in Essex: The Hinkley Point C project is the most advanced of the EDF Energy UK new build projects, achieving planning consent, design approval for the EPR pressurised water reactor and a nuclear site licence. There is a well-developed supply chain with identified preferred bidders who are already involved in construction planning. Training of a skilled workforce is also under way and industrial agreements with trade unions are in place.
