Over half a century on from the dawn of nuclear fission, the public has yet to make its peace with nuclear power Early, irrational promises of unbelievably cheap power which could never be realized, together with an inherent fear of the nuclear process (tied up with the dread of the atom bomb), have contributed to a lingering mistrust in the minds of the public. This public perception has been little influenced by the industry's attempts at improved public relations. The reasons for this are diverse and complex and have more to do with psychology than with factual reasoning. This report explores these problems and attempts to find the way forward in educating a sceptical public that knows all too little about the field of nuclear power. [References: 5]
