The winner of the Central England Branch YGN Speaking Competition, Matt Trayner, provided food for thought on the sustainability of the industry's waste in his winning presentation: 'Sustainable Decommissioning -An open letter to nuclear waste producers'. Here, Matt Trayner, an Engineering Manager working for RWM, offers some personal thoughts about sustainability in nuclear decommissioning, based on that winning presentation. "The UK has benefited from nuclear energy since 1946, which has resulted in a number of active and legacy nuclear facilities that require decommissioning now and in the future. Nuclear decommissioning is an extremely complex undertaking and in order to be successful it must be carried out sustainably.
