Outreach can be a major influence in encouraging children to be curious about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). But outreach alone is not enough. Studies show that children as young as five to seven-years-old already have decided which careers are available to them based on socioeconomic stereotypes. Providing children with a diverse range of role models and showing the various career paths available is vital to get them to pursue a career in STEM.
