Professor John Fyfe presented with the Bruce Youngman Award for 2020

The Nuclear Institute trustees were delighted to be able to name Professor John Fyfe as the winner of the Bruce Youngman award for 2020.Fyfe has been a key figure in the economic and social development aspects of the UK nuclear industry - most notably in West Cumbria - for more than 35 years. His impact has been substantial, even to the point where for over 15 years, government policy was checked to make sure it was 'West Cumbria proof and supported the nuclear economy in West Cumbria - a major tribute to his influence and impact in Whitehall.Fyfe's immensely helpful and positive impact on the economy of West Cumbria in particular will benefit generations to come and his mentoring of many leaders in the nuclear industry continues to this day, including the next generation who continue to enthuse him and for whom nothing is too much trouble. He is the essence of a 'people person' - recognising that it is collaborations built on trusted personal relationships which are the real levers to major change.
