In May 1989, an extraordinary thing happened in the nuclear industry. The heads of every commercial nuclear reactor in the world united to create the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO), setting aside long-held disagreements and geographical differences. Three decades on and WANO is still going strong, working hard to maximise the safety and reliability of the globe's nuclear power plants.
