This paper describes the key technologies used in WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) ugrad- ing of the FSA submarine optical amplifier system, including high-speed (over 10 Gbit/s)Forward Error Correction (FEC), pre-emphasis to overcome the optical passband-width constraint, Partial-Return-to Zero (PRZ) pulse, and dispersion compensation to suppress the degradation caused by fiber nonlinearity And dispersion. It also reports the filed performance of the FSA-WDM system. The results confirm that Simple replacement of the terminal equipment can increase the transmission capacities flexibly from 10 To 40 Gbit/s per fiber using the currently installed submarine repeaters and cables.
