Elimination of Diffraction Fringes Nearest to the Central Spot in the Focal Plane

It is demonstrated that diffraction maxima nearest to the central spot or fringe can be eliminated by variations in the incident field. A minimum where the field and its first derivative vanish is formed in the vicinity of the central maximum.
