MPEG2 Video Encoder Chip Set

摘要

In order to provide a compact and cost-effective real-time video encoder for the PC extended- board size, we have developed an MPEG2 SP@ML encoder chip set, Enc-M for motion estimation/ motion compensation, and Enc-C for coding/control, which require only three special-purpose DRAMs for NTSC video encoding. The chips achieve a wide search range of about ±32 to the previous frame for motion estimation and reduce the hardware amount and power consumption by reducing external memory access, optimizing function assignment, improving operation efficiency of the matching array for motion estimation, using multily/accumulation units and synchronized memory based on time sharing operation, and developing a low-power D-type flip flop and a low-power syn- chronized memory.
