NETWORK SERVICES THROUGH COOPERATION BETWEEN IP NETWORK AND ATM NETWORK

We have developed an IP/ATM hybrid system which achives fast data transfer and QoS-guaranteed stream services. This system can use ATM more efficiently than existing SVC systems that invoke IPover-ATM, because it judges whether or not to invoke SVC by looking at the file size and service type .More-over, various QoS types can be specified by the QoS negotiation mechanism using HTTP and RTSP. This paper describes the problems when we use ATM-SVC from the application-layer, their solution, and the negotiation mechanism of the ATM-SVC establishment process, and compares our new system with exist-ing IPoverATM systems. Our system achieves high throughput and QoS-guaranteed communication at a low cost.
