The Provision of Advanced VoIP Services based on Cooperation between IP Network and Intelligent Network

This paper describes an architecture that enables the provision of improved VoIP (Voice over IP) services: multi-function voice-transmission services equivalent to those available through the public telecommunication network. We describe how connections and cooperation between an IP network and the public network can enable IP provision of the value-added functions of modern telecommunication services. Several architectures using an IN (Intelligent Network) were evaluated to find the best solution to overcome the limitation of the functions of VoIP services. The evaluation considered the (1) adaptability to changes in network configuration, (2) adaptability to the addition of advanced service functions, and (3) network robustness. We recommend logically separating the IP core network from the virtual IP control network, Functionally, we propose setting specific IP controllers for VoIP gateways in the IP network, and these controllers will handle requests between the IP networks and INs. That is, the controllers will detect the requirements of the value-added service functions and will transfer messages between the VoIP network and the IN when required.
