摘要

The development of diaper structures over the years has several benchmark breakthrough technologies. These include the initial disposable diaper structure based on layers of tissue wadding; fluff pulp; hydrophobic coverstock materials; superabsorbent development and placement; leg cuffs, and others. The defining technology for fluid acquisition enhancement was the development and application of superabsorbent systems for ultrathin diapers. This allowed the diaper manufacturer to utilize a more efficient fluid storage material (in terms of cost per gram absorption), produced a much smaller packaged unit, and allowed the retailer to dramatically increase return on shelf space. However, the technology also provided a significant challenge to ensure that fluid insults could be taken into the core at a rate high enough to avoid leakage problems while providing enough liquid spreading to utilize the costly storage core.
