The market for filter media accounted for 14% of the total nonwovens market last year, at a value of almost $3.5bn, according to BCC Research. By the end of this year the company expects it to reach $3.7bn.There have been a number of significant announcements made in this area this year, such as Johns Manville (JM), which revealed plans of a €32m investment in a new polyester spunbond production line at its Berlin, Germany, facility to support the growing demand for filtration media. The company said it will utilise proprietary spinning technology and will increase the spunbond lightweight capacity at this location by more than 40%, with a start up date of 2015. JM also recently completed an expansion of its microglass fibre nonwoven production f or air filtration media at its plant in Wertheim.
