University of Leeds launches Medical Textiles MSc programme

The UK's University of Leeds is launching a new MSc programme in Medical Textiles from 2015 through its Centre for Technical Textiles in the School of Design. There is full funding available for a few places and part funding for five students. "We have got major challenges in healthcare thanks to a growing and increasingly ageing population," explained Professor Stephen Russell, director of the Clothworkers' Centre for Textiles Materials Innovation for Healthcare and chair of Textile Materials and Technology at the University of Leeds. "Some estimates suggest that between 2020 and 2050 the population of people over the age of 60 will double. Of course it is good news that people are living longer but it is a challenge because those people, if they are to remain a part of society, need healthcare products that work and that's our job - to try and make that happen. Textile products are at the heart of many of those devices."
