India to focus on urgent need to expand technical textiles standards

India is targeting a significant expansion of its standards for technical textiles products manufactured and consumed in the country, as well as legislation related to its mandatory use of technical textiles, following the second National Seminar on Standards in Technical Textiles, which took place in Mumbai in late February. Zohra Chatterji, the secretary of India's Ministry of Textiles, said at the seminar, held on February 25, that India needs to introduce standards to cover a much wider range of technical textiles. "The majority of standards in technical textiles are concentrated in a few areas and there is a need to broad base the standard formulation process to cover other areas of technical textiles," she said.
