A bag filter is composed of a number of cylindrical bags in a dust collection device, which is made of woven or needlepunched felts. Demand for filter materials in Japan reached 4.4 million square meters in 2002. Of these items, 43% were wovens and 57% were felts. Fibers used in filters consist of general purpose fibers such as polyester, polypropylene and nylon or heatproof fibers such as glass, metaaramid, PPS, polyamide and PTFE. This segment is also broken down by heat resistant (51%) and general purpose (49%) fibers. Currently, growth in the heat resistant segment is outpacing general purpose fiber sales. Bag filters are also being used in a number of applications, but demand for them is decreasing in most areas. Only applications in the exhaust gas processing segment is currently increasing. These bag filters are effective for removing the dioxins that are included in the exhaust gas. Demand for bag filters in this areas has increased rapidly since regulations concerning the discharge of dioxins were formed. Bag filters used for this purpose can also be made of glass fiber nonwovens, Tefaire, PPS felt, poly-imid felt or PTFE felt.
