Pilot plant studies on U-tube ozone contactor in drinking water treatment

Pilot plant studies on a U-tube ozone contactor to treat Yobo River surface water were conducted. The experimental results indicated that ozone transfer efficiency in the U-tube ozone contactor was higher than that in a conventional diffuser-type contactor, while the effluent quality in both ozone contactors was similar, and the retention time in U-tube ozone contactor was shorter than the other one. A U-tube ozone contactor system accompanied by an injection of gas with a high ozone concen- tration made from pure oxygen gas was seen to have large merits.
