摘要

I recently received a letter about the retirement of a senior partner in a group medical practice: "Fortunately," it said, "he is able to retire from medicine with his health and his sanity intact." At about the same time, I had lunch with a newly retired mentor. He said his new life was "wonderful... I can sleep without worry. I can eat without worry." For 40 years, he said, "I used to torment myself thinking that I had just killed someone or was about to kill someone by mistake."
