It occurred to me last week, somewhere between Bob Dole's pronouncements on disgusting movies and Bill Clinton & Co.'s pronouncements on Bosnia, that we are wrong to limit our use of "talk" as an adjective to the phrase "talk radio." We have much more than that going on in this country. We have talk foreign policy and talk moral outrage and talk family values and, when you get right down to it, talk political, social and fiscal reform. I would define this ever increasing tribe of talk-subjects as consisting of those generating continuous talk that is often detached from experience, action, meaning, candor and consequence, except as consequence can be taken to mean the presumed political benefit of those doing the talking.
