Funny how nobody ex-pects talk from late-night talk shows anymore. That went out with Jack Paar and smoking on TV. Now it's all news-riffing monologues, comedy bits and wacky real-people sidekicks like David Letter-man's favorite immigrants, Mu-jibur and Sirajul. Then along come Tom Snyder and Charles Grodin: both started night-time talk shows last week. They're not young or remotely hip. They don't book hot bands or do top-10 lists. All they've got is bad hair, "800" numbers and the ability to keep a conversation going into the next millennium. What is this, talk radio?
