摘要

It was time, bill bradley had decided, to be a little less NBA, and a little more WWF. All week, beginning with the raucous debate in New York's Harlem, he tried to shred Al Gore's record. The veep, Bradley argued, was a closet conservative. He had adopted the Clinton line on issues like abortion and gun control, but there was no telling what he really believed. Now, facing reporters in Seattle, Bradley was asked what that meant. Was he saying that Gore hadn't been a key adviser to Clinton? Bradley paused. It was an invitation to get truly ugly-to say something, perhaps, about the key role Gore had played when he went to the Buddhist temple to collect campaign checks. Instead, Bradley gave in to that serene inner voice that always seems to win out over his darker side. "I wasn't there," he shrugged uncomfortably. "I can't say what the relationship is."
