摘要

Maybe it's too early for this perpetually rising stock market to join death and taxes among The Only Certain Things in Life. But at this rate, the day is likely to come soon, and when it does, the next logical step will seem obvious: the stock market will take over just about every aspect of society. Granted, it can often seem as if that day has arrived already. But why not push it a bit further, and adopt the market as a way of life? For example, perhaps every household could be turned into a publicly traded stock. No need to worry about whether families have assets—just a few assets would put many people way ahead of a lot of dot-com companies that have made fortunes recently through initial public offerings of stock. If somebody in the household has a job, well, a steady revenue stream would be just gravy. And don't worry about savings. If we follow the example set by Amazon.com, it's best not to have any money left over at the end of the year. In the stock market, you can be penalized for making a profit.
