摘要

We are fascinated with evil because we are fascinated with ourselves. If the Bible is to be believed, alienation from God is the natural habitat of humanity and evil its full-blown manifestation. Indeed, the word "evil" appears more often in the Christian Scriptures than "good"—and with reason. From the Biblical perspective, our natural inclination is to serve ourselves rather than God—and in the case of a man like Timothy McVeigh, to mete out retribution as if he were God himself.
