The Jekyll-Hyde nature of some microbial species, poses a par-ticular problem for the registration of biocontrol agents applied in agroecosystems. Key issues concern the validity of reports of non-target pathogenicity on plants, but particularly humans; ta-xonomic problems; and paucity of pathogenicity confirmation via Koch's postulates.
