One preservation site that seems to be overlooked by rail enthusiasts is that of the Auckland's Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) and yet they have 20 locomotives running, being restored or on display. This book details these locomotives. This is the second edition of MOTAT Locomotives published by Sean and contains considerably more information than the first edition. Working with long time supporter of the rail section at MOTAT, Richard Croker, the book starts with a history of the rail section from 1964, how various items of rail plant were acquired and how track was developed. These days MOTAT is on two sites, with the tramway section (Western Springs Tramway) operating between both sites. There are railway displays at both locations. This makes for interesting reading.
