Obituary - Robin William Sutherland

Robin was born in Rangiora on 31 December 1940 and died in Christchurch on 15 March 2012. He had been a member of the Canterbury Railway Society almost since the day the organisation was formed and a member of the N Z Railway and Locomotive Society since 1962. Robin was a gentleman of the old school. He was totally polite, never heard to swear and very, very obliging. As a registered surveyor he was able to provide a considerable amount of assistance to CRS in the early days laying out the track and building plan for the site in the early 1970s and this assistance was ongoing until his death. It was only a few weeks before he died that he was surveying the approach embankment for the line into the National Railway Museum.
