All four turntables depicted in these photographs are from the greater Auckland area, and have been saved for further use at various museums or preserved railways. We will start this note with the biggest one. The 70-foot turntable was apparently one of the first batch of ten turntables which were ordered from Messrs Vickers (New Zealand) Ltd in August 1924 and were to be assembled in England, so reported the N Z Herald of 8 August 1924. The Evening Post of 23 July 1926 reported, "The huge turntable at the Campbell's Point end of the yard is completed." This turntable, as well as the new locomotive depot at Auckland, was brought into use on Sunday 3 July 1927.
