That eminent Victorian journalist, and one-time editor of Wellington's Evening Post newspaper, Charles Rous-Marten, once described the 11-ton Dubs A Class engine as 'a mere mite, a veritable toy locomotive'. We can only wonder what that learned gentleman would have thought about the subject of this note, which only weighs 7.5 tons, and 'boasts' about 2h of the power of the'mere mite'! This little 0-4-OTwas built in 1921 by Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co Ltd, at their Caledonia Works, Kilmarnock, Scotland. The Works Number was 1749.
