Walter Norman Derbyshire

Wally Derbyshire was a life member of both the N Z Railway and Locomotive Society and its Waikato Branch. He died suddenly on 26 August 2012, doing what he liked most, working in his workshop. Wally was born at Auckland on 14 May 1929 and attended the Mt Albert Primary School. His father, Peter, was a leading carpenter and bridge foreman with the NZR. On his transfer to Dargaville the family moved to that town. There Wally attended Dargaville High School, leaving at the age of 15 to take up a carpentry-joinery apprenticeship. From Dargaville the family moved to Inglewood.
