This booklet follows a similar format to Sean's earlier work on the W~w Class. It is a photographic record of members of the J~A class at work, both in NZR days and on preserved railways. The J~A class represented the zenith of steam locomotive development in New Zealand, and the author highlights features that made this locomotive unique. Of the 51 members of the class, seven have been preserved. As in his previous work on the W~w class Sean makes no apology for drawing on material used in another of his works, The NZR Steam Locomotive, published by the N Z Railway and Locomotive Society.
