摘要

Research Notes #169 (Observer 318) was about Mr R E Robertson, and the fitting of the Westinghouse Brake to New Zealand locomotives and rolling stock. Further research at the N Z Railway and Locomotive Society's Ava archive tells of his involvement in the preservation of an early New Zealand steam locomotive - A196.While we don't know all of what went on at the time in this matter, we do know that Richard Robertson wrote to the N Z Railways' Suggestions and Inventions Committee on 29 June 1926 regarding A196. The locomotive was then lying complete in the Newmarket Workshops yard. Richard suggested,"For sentimental and also for educational reasons I would strongly recommend this old engine be put in order and placed where it can be taken care of."
