Administration Planning IT Funding Boost

The Clinton Administration plans to seek major increases in funding for information technologies as part of its fiscal 2000 budget request, which the administration is beginning to assemble. President Clinton, in a commencement address delivered June 5 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said the administration will put forth initiatives in the coming year to further efforts to bring the digital age to every school in the nation. Just how much additional funding will be sought in the budget package that will be sent to Congress in February 1999 is not clear, but administration officials told NTW that the sums will be "large."
