Semiconductor Industry Spells Out Legislative Priorities

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has dispatched its members' lobbying forces to Capitol Hill in an effort to advance a portfolio of legislative actions that would help electronics companies operating in the United States. Their agenda includes everything from seeking a permanent R&D tax credit and increased support for research conducted by universities to tough enforcement of trade laws and a lifting of ceilings on temporary visas for foreign professional workers. Jerry Sanders, chairman and CEO of Advanced Micro Devices, of San Jose, Calif., said in a March 17 press conference the SIA member companies are trying to make sure that Congress recognizes the importance of the American semiconductor manufacturing industry to the United States economy.
