The push is on to move forward with the construction of the Spalla-tion Neutron Source (SNS), a project that would be the largest neutron scattering research facility built in the United States since the 1960s. The $1.33 billion project has got the backing of the White House and appears to enjoy bipartisan support in Congress, but the timely completion of SNS is far from assured. More than 300 corporate executives, university researchers, federal laboratory scientists, and legislators discussed SNS March 3-4 in Washington, D.C., during a symposium aimed at communicating the project's importance and the scientific need for a new experimental facility.
