The news popped the price of DuPont Photomasks, Inc.'s (DPI), stock up almost $4, to $44.87 a share, on February 25. Still, a perceived breakthrough in printing ultra-tiny circuit patterns on silicon wafers achieved by researchers at the University of Texas with the aid of DPI-made devices is far from being production-ready. That's the assessment of experts in microlithography technology at chipmaking giant Intel Corp. and of manufacturers of projection steppers used in precisely imaging circuits on light-sensitive wafers.
