Sematech Launches International Unit Lobbying Drive

Fearful of a backlash from a long-time supporter-the U.S. government-the electronics consortium known as Sematech has unleashed its lobbyists to sell Congress and executive branch officials on a new R&D venture that includes foreign integrated circuit manufacturers. Tomorrow, Sematech officials will announce the formation of what is to be called International Sematech, a new consortium of computer chip producers from Asia, Europe and the United States that will collaborate on technologies used for manufacturing integrated circuits.
