In February last year, the government adopted the "Basic Policy Towards Promotion of an Advanced Telecommunications Society" at the Advanced Telecommunications Society Promotion Headquarters (Chairman: Prime Minister Murayama), and among the areas necessary for achieving an advanced telecommunications society, the 'information orientation of roads, traffic and vehicles' was identified as the work of the public sector.
