Sewage Sludge and Incineration Ash Melting Facility

This section describes selected developments of special importance or interest due to the achievement of a breakthrough or innovation in technology. In March 1996, Ebara Corp. completed the installation of a 49.2-t/hr. sewage sludge melting facility at the Maebashi Municipal Water Purification Center, Gumma Pref. This concluded the construction (started off in September 1994) of the center's new sludge melting facility, implemented in an effort to reduce effluent sludge as well as incineration ash, also for making effective use of byproducts from these waste elements. Some pressing problems facing the center-limited sewage treatment capacity (84,000m~3/d), increasing volume of generated sludge, and lack of landfill sites to bury incineration ash from the sludge incinerator-have now been eliminated.
