Establishment of Inverse Manufacturing System Technology

A distinct characteristic of the activities relating to this inverse manufacturing system is the approach to the waste treatment technologies adopted previously and the approach to reassessing the methods of commodity manufacturing, all aimed to improve the overall efficiency of commodity life cycles. As an example of preemptive application of these activities, the recycling ratio of "film with lens" has attained an index as high as over 99%, fully corroborating the effectiveness of these activities. The forum, an organization for promoting these activities un-der industrial, governmental and academic cooperation and coordination, aims to engage in education and popularization activities to introduce this mechanism into other fields of products (OA equipment, home electrical appliances, automatic venders, machinery, automobiles, etc.) based on successful case studies. An approach from the theoretical aspect is to be advanced under the leadership of the Inverse Manufacturing Laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, and an approach from the elementary technology research and development aspect in connection with other recycling activities including the designing of new manufacturing systems is to be advanced by industry. Meanwhile, the administration will be applying the results of these activities and implement diverse measures in connection with the desirable structure for Japanese manufacturing industry and the social system. These efforts will be amply rewarded if this report can help resolve the diverse complicated global environmental issues of today, and contribute to a sustainable development of the global economy and society.
