Toshiba Corp. has assembled fuel cells featuring efficient operability which are gentle to the environment as the power generation units of an noninterrupted power system (UPS) for backing up the power units of computers, by which a UPS Integration System has been developed whose the running cost is reduced by 15-25% compared with conventional types of UPS systems. With the advent of the information-oriented society in recent years, adverse influences will be exerted on information processing equipment such as the computers of office buildings and factory computers, as well as to the medical equipment of hospitals in the event of an inadvertent power interruption. There is a big demand for the UPS as a system to protect vital systems and equipment from instantaneous voltage drops caused by natural disasters or from instantaneous power interruptions which are extremely difficult to prevent, with the objective of supporting the stabilized operation of vital systems and equipment.
