IDEC Izumi Corp. and Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. have jointly established a system for removing jellyfish which proliferate in the cooling water taken in by power generating plants. Coastal power plants such as thermal power plants take in huge volumes of seawater for cooling related equipment. Tn summer, innumerable jellyfish swarm about near the seawater induction intakes, and flow into the plants obstructs the operations, frequently stopping power generating equipment and obstructing smooth electric power generation and supply, exerting various adverse influences to social living and activities. To cope with this situation, various preventive measures are taken at intakes such as dredging the seawater containing jellyfish on land for collection and disposal.
