From this issue, R&D activities under of the National R&D Programs for Medical and Welfare Apparatus are introduced. This program was instituted in 1976 as to develop high performance and low cost medical and welfare apparatuses which is greatly required but which involves a high level of development risk. R&D projects are mainly conducted by private sector enterprises applying new industrial technologies under coordination by NEDO. At present, 51 R&D projects have already been successfully completed, and 19 projects are under developing. The completed R&D Projects classic fied by each category are listed as follow.
