Penguin chicks swim into trouble

Wanderlust may be driving young emperor penguins into conflict with fishing fleets working the Southern Ocean, warn biologists from California. The birds were thought to spend their whole lives in Antarctic waters. But data from radio transmitters attached to a few penguin chicks show that young birds prefer balmier waters-beyond the protection of international treaties.
