Pill may cut diabetes risk for some women

HAVING polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) leaves women facing a higher than average risk of developing diabetes - now it seems taking the contraceptive pill could reduce that likelihood. In PCOS, which affects about 1 in 10 women, the ovaries produce too much testosterone. Those affected are more likely to be overweight and have more body hair. They also have higher levels of insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar, and their cells are less sensitive to insulin, which together can lead to type 2 diabetes.
